My Desk Space

The summer days are gone, and I've been back in school for a week now. At the start of every fall semester, I have a hard time returning my focus which I'm sure other students can understand. A way that I employ motivation, is through my desk. Being a student I spend most of my time in my desk when I'm home, so it is extremely important for me to have an efficient and inspiring work space.

The raised portion of my desk and on my wall are colorful pieces that make me happy. If you haven't already figured out, I'm a huge Harry Potter fan. My family and friends already know to gift me a HP Funko pop or trinkets. I also have a striking painting of a lion that my sister made which I thought would be a unique approach to the Gryffindor lion, so she let me have it. On the raised part, I have a name frame that my creative friend made for me with pressed flowers. Behind that, I have a cute picture book and travel souvenirs that my sweet boyfriend gave me.
I like to keep the portion that I actually work on minimally designed by having everything in black, white, or silver. I do this because in my opinion, these colors don't add more clutter for my eyes whenever I have my notes sprawled out. Everything I could possibly need is available in my pen organizer, so I can get straight to work. I do my best to remove as much hassle as I can through several key pieces.
I don't have much desk space so a vertical stand allows me to tuck my laptop away behind my desk top. It's useful for whenever my laptop is charging or not in use. I like this laptop stand, because it is adjustable and can hold most laptops. The only drawback is its tacky logo. However, I just turn the logo towards the wall, exposing the clean side towards me.
Along with the concept of using vertical space is a headphone stand. I considered getting one that could be placed under my desk, but my cat would surely play with it if she saw it dangling. I decided on this headphone stand, because its circle platform doesn't take up much space and can be conveniently placed on the elevated portion of my desk.

I cannot tell you how convenient it is to have wireless desktop accessories. It was probably the best thing I could have done for my setup. I can put my keyboard and mouse inside my desk cubbies when I'm not using them, allowing me more space if needed. It's also more aesthetically pleasing to not have chunky wires everywhere. The only visible wires I have are short cables used to charge my headphones and speakers. Otherwise, everything is taped down and hidden.

My last essential would have to be a microfiber cloth. Yeah, yeah, yeah... I know it's pretty nit picky, but dust and smudges drive me absolutely crazy. It's also pretty convenient for whenever I have to do color correction and edit pictures of my lab results.
Everyone has their own way of getting motivated, so find what inspires you. Good luck this semester, folks. Happy studying!
Cheers,
Danish
